Sometimes you encounter situations so awful that you can't help but smile. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer level of destruction and just gives up, opting for laughter as a coping strategy.
But then, you remember that it's not really actually that amusing. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a groan.
Ultimately, you are left with a sense of bewilderment. You question about the meaning of it all. Was this a joke?
Or were we just simply unfortunate enough to witness this spectacle unfold?

Awful Day Ever
It all started with my case of morning hair. I couldn't do it to look presentable. As I was running out the door, I trippedover and spilled all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was totally running behind for work.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
